Avaya is applying an indirect model to its participation in this year's Gitex and will take part through its partner, the regional distributor Al Yousuf Computers. Roger Eltawil, Avaya MENA’s channel and marketing manager, explains: "We are working through our partner's stand for this year's exhibition, because this mirrors our road to market in the region. Next year, we might have an Avaya stand at the exhibition." The vendor will focus on its call centre and IP telephony solutions at the exhibition, with products being demonstrated at the stand. "We have a complete portfolio of solutions at Avaya and will we will focus on how we can help companies to make the move from a TDM platform to IP telephony, while protecting their existing investment," says Eltawil. The vendor can provide IP telephony solutions in a mixed IP and TDM environment. "We give customers the chance to mix and match products according to their budget. This allows companies to upgrade to IP telephony at their own pace," says Eltawil. The vendor expects IP telephony to be a hot topic at this year’s exhibition, given the recent moves towards greater de-regulation in the tele-communications industry. "We are looking to generate a lot of leads at the exhibition and with our established network of partners across the Gulf, Levant and Pakistan, we are well positioned to take advantage," adds Eltawil. Avaya recently demonstrated its security solutions for IP telephony during a communications roadshow across the UAE, Egypt and Lebanon. "There are lots of issues regarding the security of IP telephony. You have to deal with hackers, viruses and hijacking," says Thomas Van De Velde, convergence director 3Com EMEA."One of the most serious issues is that you are mixing two worlds and there is the fear that a weakness in one can be used to penetrate the other," he adds. Avaya outlined its IP telephony security solution at the roadshow, which it claims offers comprehensive protection. "We have a multi layered approach," says Van De Velde. The Al Yousuf stand will also feature products and solutions from NEC, Western Digital and Epson among others.
