Digitalk opens Dubai office

British telecommunications supplier opens regional office to support its growing customer base in the Middle East & Africa.

Digitalk, which is making its Gitex debut this week, has announced the opening of a regional office in Dubai to service the Middle East and Africa market. The UK-based company, which makes intelligent switches that allow telecommunications service providers to avoid the constraints and costs of managing and upgrading legacy switches, will be using the local office to target the region’s booming telcos sector. “This is our first Gitex, and we have come both because we see the Middle East as a key growth market for us, and because we feel that the type of scalable multi-service platform we offer is a good fit for the market’s ongoing development,” says Paul Adams, Digitalk’s international marketing manager. The opening of the Dubai office is part of a wider global expansion plan for the company, which has also seen it opening offices in Frankfurt, Singapore and Rome in recent months. The decision to open an office in Dubai Internet City was driven by Digitalk’s need to provide both pre- and post-sales support to its increasingly large customer base in the Middle East and Africa. The company has a number of clients in east, west and southern Africa, as well as in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The company has also recently won a multi-million dollar contract in the region, which was the main catalyst for the decision to move account management and support staff to Dubai. “We feel there is a great deal of opportunity for Digitalk [in the region], both intuitively because we have been winning new customers, but also because of the state of deregulation and the various types of applications which can be supported from the Digitalk multi-service platform,” says Adams. “This includes pre- and post-paid calling cards, indirect telephony applications, such as IDA and CPS, and more complex service applications, such as Virtual Office,” he explains. The deregulation wave sweeping across the region’s telcos sector will also create further opportunities for Digitalk. “Africa is largely deregulated now, and the Middle East promises to become equally deregulated over the coming years as well,” says George Thomas, regional manager, Middle East & Africa, Digitalk. At Gitex, the company is particularly highlighting its flagship product, Virtual Office. This is a service platform that allows Digitalk’s service provider customers to offer virtual PBX, call routing and unified messaging applications to corporate costumers. “Digitalk Virtual Office is an important part of the overall Digitalk multi-service platform proposition, which service providers can use to rationalise their services to a single service platform, serviced by a single network and service management suite, with all the operational benefits that allows,” explains Adams. At Gitex, Digitalk is also hunting for local resellers to promote its product line to telcos in the region. “Lots of companies are interested in becoming resellers, but they need to have the right mix of skills sets,” says Thomas. “It’s not just telecommunications, networking or data networking: it’s all three.”
