Networking giant Cisco has appointed Mark De Simone as vice president for Cisco Middle East and Africa. De Simone brings a wealth of channel experience to his new role having previously served as VP of market development, channels, alliances and corporate marketing at an EMEA level with Cisco. Cisco has combined the Middle East and Africa into what it terms a new ‘geography operation’. De Simone will set off on a regional tour of key markets in his new role to promote Cisco’s commitment to working with service providers and private and public sectors across the region. “The number and scale of deployments in the Middle East and Africa highlights that industry and governments are investing for future success. The region also has huge potential for the future, especially in light of the progressing liberalisation of the telecommunications market,” said De Simone. “I am proud to have been selected for this role and look forward to working even more closely with the strong team of professionals that have helped establish Cisco as a market leader in this diverse region.” With Cisco combining the Middle East and Africa into a new ‘geography operation’, it remains to be seen the effect that this will have on distribution agreements within the region. Comstor was recently appointed Cisco Distribution Partner (CDP) in sub-Saharan Africa. In the Middle East, Cisco uses Tech Data and Logicom as its two existing CDP partners. New appointments appear likely as Cisco looks to extend its reach into key markets such as Saudi Arabia and extend the channel reach for product lines such as Linksys.
