i-mate is due to expand its range of handheld devices at Gitex with the launch of its new Jam PDA. i-mate claims the new handheld, which is being shown for the first time at the October show, will meet both consumers’ communications and entertainment needs, and with this in mind the aptly named PDA has been jam-packed full of features. The smoothly designed device includes a built-in GSM/GPRS mobile phone, Media Player 10 for top quality audio listening, and its 1.3 mega pixel camera with full-screen viewfinder will give happy snappers something to play with. Users with Bluetooth peripherals such as mobile phones and notebooks will appreciate this technology’s inclusion, plus the Jam’s screen can be rotated for use in portrait or landscape mode. On the software front, the Jam runs Microsoft’s Windows Mobile Second Edition operating system, which features titles such as Pocket Outlook, Phone and Internet Explorer. 64MB of memory allows some data storage, though the MMC/SDIO card slot means more can be added. Following Gitex, i-mate’s Jam PDA will hit the wider market in early November. It is expected to retail for around $680 and will be reviewed in Windows Middle East magazine.
