Jacky’s gears up for Gitex

Retailer Jacky’s has embarked on an extensive 45 day Gitex training programme with major vendors to enhance staff service and IT knowledge as part of its preparations for Gitex.

Jacky’s has embarked on an extensive training programme for its staff in the run up to Gitex. The retailer teamed up with major vendors, including HP, Samsung, Acer, IBM, Canon, BenQ, LG and Kodak, to provide technical training to a team of 25 Jacky’s employees over a 45-day period. Discussing the benefits that the Jacky’s sales team will gain through this training, Ashish Panjabi, Chief Operating Officer, Jacky’s said, “Gitex week provides high-pressure situations with companies vying with each other for the attention of the tens of thousands of visitors. The training by our vendors has given our sales team both tangible and intangible benefits such as up-to-date product information and confidence and our sales team is all geared up and focused on making this year’s Gitex one of our best.” Training sessions have been planned over August and September and involve hands-on guidance from technical experts, especially in new areas of consumer electronics. “After hearing about digital convergence for so long, we are now in the period where this is something that has hit the mass market so the consumer has to know about this. Several vendors also have got a varied product range where products they have are now networkable or have some level of connectivity between them, so it is more about learning the workflow other than simple bullet points summarizing features that are normally pasted on the side of the box,” added Panjabi. Panjabi commented that Jacky’s looked at the training from the perspective of the customer in order to provide as many services as possible to end-users. “What the trainings try and ensure is that the sales staff is fully aware of how the different technologies work, the issues related to connectivity and the main value-adds that the new technology has for the customer. There was a time when many vendors and resellers used to use opportunities like Gitex Shopper to clear out old stocks but today the situation is very different since the entry of ‘Organized Retailers’ into the Shopper. Hence customers are more educated about what they are buying and demand to have the latest technology.”
