Performance management software vendor Network General has appointed Charlie Abrahams as sales vice president for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) with a brief to build strategic partner relationships that extend the company’s market coverage. Abrahams plans to use Network General’s distribution and value-added reseller (VAR) sales model to enhance the vendor’s customer reach across the EMEA region. Abrahams will also lead the company’s thrust beyond its traditional network management domain into the application performance management space. “Network General has an outstanding customer base and reputation. With a real focus and strategic investments, I believe there is a unique opportunity to grow the network and applications performance business to new levels,” said Abrahams. “It is this that motivated my decision to join Network General.” Prior to joining Network General, Abrahams held the position of European managing director at web technology specialist Plumtree Software. Abraham’s CV also includes stints at IBM, Amdahl and Burroughs in senior sales and management positions. “The appointment of Charlie Abrahams as our vice president of EMEA sales is a demonstration of our commitment to the EMEA market,” said Bruce Fram, chief executive officer at Network General. “With his strong leadership skills, successful sales experience and his clear understanding of the EMEA customer base, Charlie will be a key asset in helping Network General become the gold standard in network and application performance management around the world.” Network General was formed from the Sniffer Technologies division of McAfee (formerly Network Associates) in April 2004 when the unit was acquired by investment firms Silver Lake Partners and Texas Pacific Group for US$275m. Network General has approximately 6,000 customers worldwide in over 50 countries and expects its headcount to reach 600 in the near future. Network General’s product portfolio includes the Infinistream network management product line and the Appera application performance management product line. The vendor is also committed to revitalising its core products, including the Sniffer Portable and Sniffer Distributed ranges. With staff in 23 countries around the world, Network General plans to use a combination of direct and VAR-led sales to expand its worldwide customer base.
