Jacky’s Electronics LLC is heading to Gitex 2004 with the aim of promoting itself as a key IT retailer in the region. The company, which claims to be a leader in the retail and wholesale of electronics in the UAE and several African and Asian countries, sells a wide range of IT kit from multiple manufacturers. However, as business development manager Kiran Borker points out, it is still seen by many end users as more of a consumer electronics operation. It is this perception that Jackys is keen to change. "We feel that, at present, we are very much perceived as an electronics company," says Borker. "Our association with IT products has picked up, but we still have a long way to go." He cites the main reason for Jackys’ attendance at this year’s Gitex show as being "to strengthen the association of IT products with Jacky’s in customer’s minds. Gitex helps in strengthening the market share for IT products because the association with suppliers is intense and the collaboration lasts for the entire year post-Gitex." Jackys’ IT lines currently include notebook computers, digital cameras, and a gamut of accessories and peripherals such as printers, scanners and multifunction devices. Its strategy as a multi-brand retailer is to offer customers the best choice of products possible, so that they can easily find and buy the solution that best meets their needs. As such, the company shies away from promoting preferred IT brands, instead aiming to get a large range of manufacturers’ products into its stores. The firm will focus on its IT and photography ranges at this year’s Gitex show and also plans to roll out a large off- and online end-user promotion during Gitex week. "Our customers will get bundle offers and a guaranteed prize," explains Borker. The prize refers to a free gift for visitors to Jackys’ Gitex stand, while the bundle offers, available at the show and through the company’s web site, include a digital photography (camera and memory card) bundle, a data burning bundle (comprising a notebook and selection pack of rewritable media), and PDA and Bluetooth cellphone packs. "As a special offer, the Gitex deals will also be available at all our showrooms too," adds Borkar.
