Logicom plans notebook range

Distributor Logicom plans to increase its sales into retail channels to supplement its strong components business. Logicom is also negotiating a distribution deal with a major monitor vendor and has plans to start an assembly operation and begin selling notebooks.

Distributor Logicom plans to increase its sales into retail channels to supplement its strong components business. Having just signed up to distribute McAfee retail products, Logicom is also negotiating a distribution deal with a major monitor vendor and has plans to start an assembly operation and begin selling notebooks. The company is in the process of building a 20,000 square foot facility at Jebel Ali that will house both a new warehouse and also an assembly line. “We want to work across both business areas — components and retail,” said George Georgiou, director at Cyprus-based Logicom. “Components business with large assemblers gives the volume but also has its ups and downs. Retailers buy more often in smaller quantities.” “We are now taking volume retail products from McAfee and this will help our ability to reach out to more retailers and start cross-selling them more products from our portfolio as well,” added Georgiou. “Logicom is always trying to expand its product line by adding top brands and offering full solutions to its customer base. As well as McAfee, we are also selling Microsoft into retailers and we are looking at adding a major monitor brand.” “With assemblers, you’ve got to be able to offer good prices and large credit lines. With retailers it is all about having product availability all the time. Assemblers can wait a couple of weeks for their order but retailers want their order almost immediately. You also have to be able to pass on promotional material for the product to the retailer,” he added. Logicom plans to import barebone notebooks from suppliers in Taiwan that can be sold as white box units to resellers wishing to put their own brand identity on the product. Logicom also plans to sell the notebooks under its in-house brand, Arrow.
