Microsoft South Gulf is offering the chance to win a range of prizes including high tech devices and software with a new Windows XP SP2 competition. The online competition, which is open to all residents of the South Gulf region (Oman, Pakistan, the UAE and Yemen), has been set up to raise awareness of the benefits of Microsoft’s Windows XP Service Pack 2, an enhancement to Windows XP, which is now available to download. The competition runs for eight weeks, starting from August 30, and will feature one draw every week until October 24. Each week a new set of questions on SP2 will be posted on the competition website, east/win. Players that answer the questions correctly will automatically be entered into the weekly draw to win one of the three prizes each week. Among the prizes on offer during the competition will be PDAs, MP3 players, wireless desktops and more from sponsors such as Acer, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, and Western Digital, as well as Microsoft software and games. A grand final draw will be held at the end of the competition, to win an Acer Tablet PC. “Security is a major concern for all PC users, and as such we are pleased to be part of this competition to encourage the public to learn about SP2 and the benefits of installing it. As a technology vendor, we are committed to driving initiatives with our partners that will help to create a safer and more secure environment,” says Mazen Shehadah, product marketing manager at Microsoft South Gulf. “Windows XP Service Pack 2 is a major release for Microsoft, that, once installed will create the most secure Windows operating system ever. As such, it is important that we encourage as many users as possible to understand the benefits of SP2 and to make sure their PCs are updated with it. This competition gives us an excellent method of raising awareness about SP2 among users as well giving them the chance to win some great prizes,” Shehadah adds. Service Pack 2 establishes stronger default security settings and includes updates with new features and tools designed to help customers better defend their systems and information from security threats. This means safer browsing and communications for consumers and an improved security infrastructure for businesses. It is also easy to configure and manage security resources with new functionality, more accessible and intuitive security tools and the new Windows Security Centre.
