The Gulf Information Technology Exhibition, better known as Gitex, will attract a whopping 100,000 visitors this year as attendance is set to boom by 35%. According to the event’s organisers, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), people will flock to the UAE from over 146 countries to visit the 850 exhibitors that have already booked floor space at the show. As in previous years, all the big name international vendors will be present at Gitex, as well as leading IT firms from across the Middle East and those from further afield wishing to tap into the Middle East’s growth market. For the first time, Belgium, Malaysia and South Africa have taken country pavilions, while the British, German and Taiwanese will have their regular slots. While last year’s event saw a number of firsts in terms of e-gates and handheld delivery systems, Gitex 2004 will be more user friendly than before. The exhibition halls have been rearranged into main areas of interest — hardware, software, communications and networking — while a new registration system will facilitate the rapid movement of crowds and remove potential bottlenecks from the show.
