Online distribution will showcase a huge range of networking vendors at this year’s show. Among those represented on the stand are 3Com, APW, Avocent, Molex, Ortonics and Symbol. “Highlights will include Molex showing off its realtime patching solution. There is a lot of talk in the business about this but Molex has a solution ready for deployment,” says Rashida Malik, marketing manager, Online distribution. The distributor’s stand will also host products demos from 3Com, Ortronics Clarity cabling and angled patch panels, as well as focusing closely on its Symbol range, with wireless switches and a new IEEE standard sure to attract attention. Wireless switches are a more comprehensive alternative to wireless access points and could potentially tighten up wireless security. “Wireless switches offer more robust security than access points as part of its wider feature set,” says Ram Gopal, Symbol product manger at Online distribution. Along with the new wireless authentication standard 802.11i, it could boost user confidence in wireless networking. “The security of the wireless network is almost as good as that of wired networks with the release of IEEE’s new standard 802.11i,” says Gopal. The distributor has been participating at Gitex since 1995 and has witnessed steady progress. “Gitex is a very important event for us,” says Malik. “We have our headquarters in Dubai and it is the best opportunity to meet up with vendors and partners under one roof. It also opens up new business as companies are introduced to potential new partners.
