Etihad Airways made its maiden flight to Bahrain today, as the carrier launched scheduled services to the island kingdom. The first flight carried more than 100 travel agents and other representatives from UAE travel and tourism companies. The service to Bahrain, the carrier’s first route in the GCC, marks a further challenge to the Bahrain-based Gulf Air, which is jointly owned by Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Oman. However, at present Etihad is only flying the route four times a weeks, which means that passengers travelling on a return ticket will have to stay for at least two nights.
