Sybase prowls for partners

Infrastructure software vendor Sybase is poised and ready to recruit channel partners in the Middle East to boost indirect sales of its mobile software solutions.

Infrastructure software vendor Sybase is poised and ready to recruit channel partners in the Middle East to boost indirect sales of its mobile software solutions. Sybase began operations out of Dubai ten years ago and has worked with several partners on projects predominantly in the financial sector. The software vendor, which directs its Middle East and Eastern European operations from Dubai, also plans to attend GITEX and will use the event to make contact with potential partners. “Sybase has recently expanded into the mobile technology arena, and offers businesses solutions for remote wireless access,” said Loui Okasha, channel and marketing manager at Sybase Middle East. “Mobile solutions is one area where we would like to find channel partners, particularly companies who work in the GCC with small to medium enterprises.” “These partners will be our regional arm and we can provide them with technology infrastructure, training, knowledge — a value-add to deliver to their customers such as trading companies, distributors, government sectors and ports,” added Okasha. Sybase is also active in developing channel relationships with software development companies for its assortment of programming tools. “Sybase is well known in Europe and the US for products that enable independent software vendors to tailor solutions for their client. We want to push this out to companies throughout the Middle East, so they can use the software and sell customized applications — a vital value add service for the business market,” said Okasha. “There is a mutual benefit from Sybase working with partners,” he added. “We will expand in terms of our market reach and stretch out to segments that we are unable to sell to when working directly. There is huge potential in the SMB market and the product we offer is ideal, in relation to price, technology and business value, but they cannot be delivered without the right partners.” Sybase products enable customers to build unwired enterprise solutions for information management and data integration across a variety of vertical markets including healthcare, public sector, finance, communications and commerce. Helping to integrate applications, databases and platforms, Sybase software enables companies to extend systems over wireless networks. Globally, Sybase operates three major channels-to-market. Some 200,000 software developers use the company’s products worldwide and Sybase also sells through some 2,000 software, services and platforms providers. The New York-quoted software vendor also has 700 OEM partners embedding Sybase technology in their solutions including major vendors such as HP, Sun and IBM. Sybase global sales for the year ending June 2004 hit US$776m.
