Global satellite radio company World Space has made its Middle East debut with the launch of its operations in the UAE.

Headquartered in Dubai for its Middle East Operations, World Space provides listeners with world-class programmes offering a combination of popular local, regional and international audio content from around the world, in digital quality sound. “World Space is the only company offering radio services globally using dedicated satellites. We provide a unique opportunity to our customers to listen to their favourite music and news from a wide range of renowned international broadcasters, irrespective of their location,” says M Sebastian, vice president and general manager, World Space. Listeners who subscribe to World Space can choose from over 60 digital quality audio stations providing a mix of music, market-specific multi-lingual news, current affairs, talk shows, financial information, and weather reports. Other categories of music on air include African, European classical, Carnatic, Hindustani, contemporary, country, dance, hits, international, modern, oldies, pop, rock, urban and soul among others. Stations currently broadcasting through World Space include MBC FM, Radio Sawa, Maestro, The System, World Zone, Virgin Radio, Radio Caroline, Orbit Rock, The Hop, UPop, Bob, World Zone, Potion, Up Country, Gandharv, Jhankaar, Farishta, RFI Internationale, Radio Indigo, BBC, CNN International, Fox News, Bloomberg Radio, RM Radio, KL and World Radio Network. “World Space is ideal for the Middle East since the region is home to a large expatriate population”, says Sebastian. The service currently broadcasts in a number of languages including Arabic, English, French, German, Hindi, Malayalam, Swahili and Tamil. World Space Satellite Radio Receivers are available at leading electronics retail outlets including Radio Shack, Plug-Ins and Jacky’s. Annual subscription rate for the service is Dhs 220.
