Asus claims PCI Express graphics boost

Motherboard manufacturer Asus has announced what it claims is an exclusive graphics performance innovation on its 915P and 925X-based motherboards.

Motherboard manufacturer Asus has announced what it claims is an exclusive graphics performance innovation on its 915P and 925X-based motherboards. The firm’s proprietary technology, named PEG (PCI Express Graphics) Link Mode, is designed to boost graphics card performance when used with Asus’ recently launched PCI Express mainboards. PEG Link Mode allows users to raise GPU and VGA memory throughput via the motherboard BIOS, the same way system bus and memory bus are tweaked. Asus says this Link Mode also enables powerful video performance on DX8 and DX9 applications. The firm claims its engineers have fine-tuned the parameters for every single PCI-Express card to provide system stability during high-speed graphics operations. PEG Link offers five settings for this function: Auto, Slow, Normal, Fast and Faster. The default setting is Auto, which means the motherboard automatically adjusts for the correct frequency according to system configuration. For advanced users who demand more precise overclocking, they can select the other four settings to achieve the most suitable graphics card performance. Asus claims its P5AD2 Premium and P5GD2 Premium motherboards are the most overclockable 915P/925X products available on the market today, enabling front side bus (FSB) overclocking up to 278Mhz. These boards are currently available for $290 and $214 respectively. In addition to detailing its PGI Link technology, Asus also recently announced that its 13 Socket A and four Socket 754 motherboards now support AMD’s all-new Sempron CPU family. Current owners of ASUS Socket A and Socket 754 motherboards can download the latest BIOS from the company’s homepage.
