Emirates Towers Hotel, Concierge of the Year title winner in 2002 and 2003, is aiming for a hat-trick this year as the competition to find Dubai’s best concierge moves into its second phase. ‘Concierge of the Year’ is jointly organised by Wafi City, an upscale shopping and leisure destination, and the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), and is supported by Hotelier Middle East. “We have high expectations from this year’s contest and not only want to retain the individual title but also win the team award,” said Karim Bizid, director of rooms, Emirates Towers Hotel. “The competition has proved an excellent motivator for our team and has helped us to focus on exceeding customer expectations. The previous two wins have strengthened our position and helped us to remain motivated throughout the year,” he added. The search, which began on June 15, saw three mystery guests visiting Dubai’s 32 participating five-star hotels and speaking to the contestants to test their customer service skills and local knowledge. Besides the individual and team awards, awards are bestowed in several categories, including Most Positive Customer Attitude, Most Customer Focused Concierge, Most Enthusiastic Concierge, Best Presented Concierge, Best Interpersonal Skills and Best Knowledge of Attractions & Events. “Concierge of the Year has now assumed an important position in the hospitality event calendar and all concierge teams eagerly look forward to the event,” said Moira Billington, marketing director, Wafi Group. “It is important to a city where tourism is one of the main driving factors in contributing to the growth of the local economy. “Dubai is a trend-setter for the rest of the Middle East and we want to ensure service standards in this great city are amongst the world’s best.” The Concierge of the Year awards will be presented at a gala dinner in the Sphinx Supper Club and Restaurant in Wafi City’s Pyramids entertainment complex on September 27. The individual winner will get an extra Dhs 1,000 a month in his or her pay packet for a year. There will be cash prizes of Dhs 1,000 and Dhs 2,000 for various categories including ‘exceptional customer service,’ ‘local knowledge’ or ‘going the extra mile’. The best team will win Dhs 20,000.
