BenQ claims LCD TV growth

Digital lifestyle company BenQ has reported a 20% rise in sales of its range of LCD TVs across the Middle East.

Digital lifestyle company BenQ has reported a 20% rise in sales of its range of LCD TVs across the Middle East region. The firm partly attributes this growth in sales to the replacement market, as users swap traditional TV sets for flat-panel, future facing models. The company says demand is particularly strong in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. "LCD TV sales have been buoyant across the Middle East for the last six months, as more people look to replace their old TVs with newer models," said Robert Dung, managing director, BenQ Middle East. "Our larger sized screens have proved to be very popular." BenQ’s current offering of LCD TVs ranges in size from 15” up to 30” models. It will release 32” and 37” models in the third quarter of this year, while a 46” super-sized LCD TV is due to be introduced by the end of the fourth quarter. BenQ claims to be the third largest manufacturer of LCD panels in the world, thanks partly to its share of Taiwanese panel producer AU Optronics. BenQ has steadily introduced more LCD TV models into the Middle East over recent months to try and capitalise on the growing home entertainment market. "The regional LCD TV sector is maturing rapidly, with a growing understanding of the benefits of LCD technology," said Dung. "It is important that we keep innovating and updating our product range in order to satisfy the expectations of consumers." BenQ is planning serious expansion across the Middle East and recently announced plans to open offices in Saudi Arabia and Egypt as part of the second phase of its Middle East and Africa (MEA) expansion plan. "We see the Middle East and Asia as the highest growth area for BenQ today," CEO K Y Lee told ITP.
