Hong-Kong based real-estate development firm, Trident International Holdings, has awarded the construction contract for Phase II of its maiden Dubai project ‘The Waterfront’, to Larsen & Toubro Ltd., one of India’s largest engineering and construction conglomerates. The 20-storey luxury tower in the Dubai Marina community was launched in June 2003. “We are convinced that L&T is the ideal partner for our very first apartment project in Dubai. We chose the company because of its unmatched quality track record in construction work in the region as well as across the globe. With projects in the Middle East, Africa, South East Asia, CIS and South America, L&T is India’s largest construction organisation and its reputation is unsurpassed. We wanted best-of-the-breed partnerships to lead the development of The Waterfront to ensure that the project will tower above other similar developments,” said Sadrudin Ali, Trident International managing director. He said L&T was chosen after strict evaluation and assessment in which six reputed construction companies were short listed and scrutinised for their quality, experience and capability in executing mega projects. Construction work at The Waterfront is ahead of schedule with all earth works, shoring and excavation completed and civil work about to commence. The piling and foundation work had already been completed by May 2004. “We are delighted to be part of such an exciting project at the Dubai Marina. Our highly qualified engineers and technicians, not to mention our construction manpower of about 150 000 is spread over 350 project sites worldwide,” said T.V. Naganathan, L&T area manager. “We also bring to the table an extensive understanding of the region, having been involved in the construction of a number of commercial and residential structures in the UAE and Middle East in the past and are presently working in the region on a few projects including the Diplomat Hotel of the Radisson Group in Bahrain, a US $15.6 million contract we won earlier this year,” Naganathan added. Trident has signed up Pacific Control Systems LLC for implementing ‘smart homes’ at The Waterfront. Global giants like Schneider Electric, Honeywell, GE, Interlogix and Tridium back the technology alliance. Launched in June 2003, The Waterfront freehold apartment project has met with a tremendous investor response from both the UAE and abroad. All units have now been sold including the Sky-Villas and penthouse apartments. All the 72 residential units have spectacular views of the Marina, parks, the Gulf and the new Jumeirah Islands development. Apart from the ‘3G Smart Homes’ concept, Trident has also introduced the residential concept of `Sky Villas’ for the first time in the Middle East. Sky Villas combine the exclusivity and expansiveness of a modern villa with the functional attributes of a luxury apartment and are located on the 17th and 18th floor of the Waterfront tower.
