3Com Middle East has added the Turbo Mode feature to its OfficeConnect 11a/b/g wireless access points and client devices. 3Com claims this increases wireless connection speed from 54 Mbps up to 108 Mbps. "The ongoing programme of enhancements and improvements to 3Com’s wireless products means that we can offer our customers in the Middle East one of the strongest choices in wireless network offerings on the market today,” says Neal Kaufman, director of small business product management, 3Com. The Turbo Mode feature, which has already supported on 3Com’s enterprise-class wireless LAN access points and adapters, gives small business users the opportunity to take advantage of higher speed. Instead of forcing customers to pick one type of wireless standard over another, 3Com supports Turbo Mode extensions across its tri-mode 802.11 products. The enhanced wireless network delivers more bandwidth to speed up the performance of demanding business applications for mobile workers, claims 3Com. 3Com also enhanced its OfficeConnect Wireless 11a/b/g access points with the Wireless Distribution System (WDS), a flexible product feature that allows business customers to build a completely wireless infrastructure without connecting equipment to a wired local area network (LAN). This type of set-up is ideal for open areas where wiring (or re-wiring) is cost-prohibitive, restricted or physically impossible. The access points act as wireless bridges and also use 3Com wireless security technology.
