Epson is aiming to increase its share of the region’s laser printer market with the release of two new mono models aimed at demanding SME and home users. The firm’s new SME model, the EPL-6200, and its new home use laser, the EPL-6200L, have quoted print speeds of up to 20ppm and Epson also claims to have significantly reduced their warm up times to just over 10 seconds. Both printers offer resolutions of up to 1200dpi in order to accurately output image heavy letters and presentations. "Epson is renown for its colour expertise, however, we are realistic and we listen to our customers," said Khalil El-Dalu, general manager, Epson Middle East. "We recognise that some printing applications do not need to be in colour with some customers still requiring mono laser printers, which is why we are continuing to manufacture and develop monochrome products. The EPL-6200 and EPL-6200L address the needs of the small to medium sized business and home users, two segments which are expanding rapidly in the Middle East." The SME aimed EPL-6200 features a 200Mhz print controller and a maximum memory capacity of 136MB, which Epson hopes will appeal to businesses that send high volumes of data to their printer. For home users the new EPL-6200L includes a 48Mhz controller and 2MB of memory. Both printers support media up to A4 in size including envelopes, labels and transparencies. The EPL-6200 also includes a capacity of up to 750 sheets thanks to its two paper trays, plus an optional duplex unit is available, allowing users to print on both sides of their paper. The EPL-6200L features a standard 150-sheet paper cassette, which Epson asserts is “perfectly adequate for the home user.” The EPL-6200 has an optional 10/100 BaseTX Ethernet interface to make it compatible with business networks, plus it also offers standard USB and parallel connections. The EPL-6200L meanwhile offers only USB connectivity. Both printers are available in the region immediately. The EPL-6200 costs $370 and the 6200-L is available for $255.
