Al Aqariya, a new satellite TV channel catering to the real estate and property market in Dubai will be launched in mid-September from Dubai Media City. The channel will be the first of its kind in the Arab world. "Dubai has undoubtedly become the real estate capital of the world and is the venue of some of the world's most coveted and cherished real estate projects and properties," commented Sheikh Butti bin Suhail Al Maktoum, chairman of the board of directors for the new venture. "Within the UAE, in 2003, the construction sector contributed to US $2billion of the economy. With such astounding growth and progress in Dubai's real estate industry, the launch of such a channel seems crucial," he added. Channel content will include bilingual news bulletins, industry updates, financial consultation, legal advice, property viewings, hard talk, and special programmes on furniture, architecture and home décor. The channel will also give developers a chance to showcase their projects to prospective investors and finance houses. "Viewers can expect programmes on all topics pertaining to the industry. The channel will be targeted at both individual customers such as residents and housewives as well as industry professionals,” commented Mekki Abdulla, broadcast marketing special and advisor to the channel. Initially, the channel will be free-to-air and can be accessed on Nile Sat (frequency 11785 Mhz). The service will be available to the Middle East, South Europe and North Africa.
