Tejari, the Middle East’s online marketplace announced today that Kuwaiti mobile service provider MTC has signed up as a strategic buyer on Tejari for online procurement of MTC products and services. According to the agreement, MTC’s buying functions will now be centralised on the Tejari trading platform. Through consolidated buying power across all its different departments, MTC will be able to receive volume pricing from a wide range of existing and new suppliers. Online procurement will initially be used by MTC to purchase office equipment, IT solutions and stationery, with a view to ultimately using Tejari for wider buying activities, and possibly for other companies in MTC Group in Bahrain, Jordan and Lebanon and others. “Tejari presents an excellent online trading platform and presents some very compelling reasons for us to migrate our procurement needs to the web. This has a direct impact on the transparency and speed plus efficiency and effectiveness of our procurement process,” says Dr. Saad Al Barrak, director general of the MTC Group. Tejari Kuwait was opened in January 2004 to cater to several verticals, as part of Tejari’s plan for a region-wide network. The four-year old B2B offers outsourcing, negotiation and transaction environment for all of its buyers regionally and internationally and its services include catalogue management, project collaboration, online procurement training, procurement consulting and support. “MTC has demonstrated the far sightedness and progressive outlook of Kuwaiti businesses today and presents a great example of how businesses can today leverage technology to streamline processes and achieve an edge in an increasingly competitive marketplace,” says Emad Makarem, managing director of Tejari Kuwait. Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) was founded in 1983 and is the largest mobile operator in Kuwait with over one million customers across the five countries it operates in.
