Riyadh Television Studios has undertaken a major upgrade project that will see the installation of shared storage automation solutions from IBIS and Omneon. The new infrastructure is based on three LAN-connected Omneon MediaServers, which together provide Studio Recording and Playback facilities to three Television Studios and a Television Theatre, a collaborative Programme Production System and a news production and playout system. End-to-end system automation will be provided by IBIS, which will supply their PreCue channel management system, providing sophisticated planning functionality with comprehensive database facilities for programme, promotion and interstitial material management plus EPG preparation. Ingest to and playout from the Omneon servers will be controlled by IBIS SprinTx newsroom system, operating with a dynamic MOS gateway, comprising ServerBase, ServerMirror, and ServerLoad — which will be used for parallel acquisition into the on-line and browse environment. IBIS Vista Browse and ClipTrim editing software will offer journalists desk-top browse editing functionality in conjunction with the Omneon servers. Provision for Arabic text capture for key fields is included within the system.
