The training centre and lab will be used to both train Trend Micro resellers on the finer points of Trend Micro solutions and also demonstrate the capabilities of the vendor’s products to existing and potential customers. The company is offering a structured three level training programme to resellers. Levels 1 and 2 can be completed online, with the first level covering security issues in general and the second part tackling Trend Micro’s range. Level three involves hands-on lab work. The establishment of the Trend Micro training and testing suite in Dubai will give local resellers the opportunity to reach level 3 proficiency for the first time. “Basically in level three, we break the products, posing problems such as installing software incorrectly and it’s up to the engineers taking the course to fix them,” says Justin Doo, managing director of Trend Micro in the Middle East. “It is a taxing course with a high fail rate,” continues Doo. “It isn’t just a rubber stamp certification that we will hand out like sweets. We anticipate the certificate could prove useful to candidates when applying for jobs,” he adds. The training programme for resellers is the same as that undergone by Trend Micro’s pre-sales team. The idea behind this is that resellers have the potential to be as well–informed about Trend Micro products as Trend Micro employees. The company expects to begin its first certification courses in August. The move will represent a doubling of the office space used by Trend Micro at Dubai Internet City (DIC).
