Mall of the Emirates is on schedule for its targeted completion date of September 2005, according to its developer, Majid Al Futtaim Investments. With 350 shops and over 2.4 million square feet of retail and leisure space, the mall promises to be one of the largest outside North America when complete. “This is one of the most ambitious mall projects in the world, certainly outside of North America,” says Peter Walichnowski, Chief Executive Officer, Majid Al Futtaim Investments, owner of the project. “Even now the construction site illustrates the sheer scale of the project and the fact we are on schedule is testament to the commitment of the entire team.” The mall’s indoor ski slope, arguably its flagship feature, is already taking shape and can be seen from Sheikh Zayed Road. The mall is located close to Dubai Internet City and several Emaar Properties developments. It is unusual for a developer to make the announcement that a project is on schedule. MAF is perhaps responding to recent high profile cases of delays that have generated negative press and caused tensions between developers and tenants.
