HP has added to its range of scanners available in the region, with the launch of the HP Scanjet 5590, which is aimed at small business users. The Scanjet 5590 features a fast automatic document feeder (ADF) and scanning options for a range of materials, including slides and negatives. The ADF allows up to 50 page documents to be scanned automatically, so users can put a long document in and leave it unattended. The ADF also features a duplex mode, so both sides of a document can be scanned and scan speed is up to eight pages a minute, with a preview available in as little as seven seconds. As well as scanning regular documents, the Transparent Materials Adapter (TMA) feature allows users to scan negatives and slides. Scanning image quality is 2400dpi with 48-bit colour. “The capture market is growing rapidly in this region and we have found that small-to-medium businesses are finding that our Scanjets are helping them to increase productivity as it provides them with an easy and quick tool to share vital documents such as invoices, contracts and proposals,” said Amr Hassan, general manager for HP Imaging and Printing Middle East. The robust, streamlined design of the HP Scanjet 5590 allows it to fit perfectly into any small office environment, HP’s promotional material proudly claims. Rather more informatively, it points out that the Scanjet 5590 is also fully ISIS-compliant, the new industry “standard” for applications that acquire, convert, view, print and store scanned document images, so it should fit well into a company’s document management solution. Document management capabilities are also offered with the Scanjet 5590’s bundled NewSoft Presto! PageManager 7.0 software. The scanner also comes with scanning software to make the process of scanning easier and the easy-to-use control panel features 10 one-touch buttons, including a Scan-to-PDF button, allowing a user to quickly perform the most frequently-used tasks. Pricing for the HP Scanjet 5590 will be around the $459 mark, HP said, and it will be available across the Middle East by the end of July.
