A number of users within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are finally buying into the idea of thin clients as they look to extend the lifecycle of user hardware.

A number of users within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are finally buying into the idea of thin clients as they look to extend the lifecycle of user hardware, cut costs and improve desktop management. “Thin client has taken time to take off but people are now using it because it is cost effective. It is also very applicable here [in Saudi] because many companies have branches across the Kingdom,” says Amar Wadjih, regional manager, SALEEA region, Sun Microsystems. “It also helps in terms of security and it improves management and productivity,” he adds. According to Eng. Talal Al-Hajah, sales engineer at ILS, thin clients are selling well into vertical sectors, such as healthcare and construction, where many users only have to run one application. “Thin clients are for companies that have departments that are running only one application,” he says. “Instead of giving these users PCs companies are shifting towards thin clients so they can run the applications from the server. The reason that more people are deploying thin clients is for improved security and for a lower TCO,” he adds.
