Fixed satellite communications company, New Skies Satellites, is developing business opportunities and updating delegates at this year’s ITU Africa show. Topping the agenda is the company’s recent teleport launch. The hub, which has been set up with Unitel Hellas S.A., features Ku-band uplink facilities to the satellite operator’s NSS-6 satellite bird and relays broadband internet, voice and data traffic, as well as digital video transmissions, between the Middle East, Europe, Africa and the Asia Pacific region. It is targeted at internet service providers (ISPs) and other internet customers in the Middle East & Africa region that require high speed access at lower costs. New Skies says it also serves telecoms carriers and GSM operators equally as well as they can use it to terminate voice minutes at call centres throughout Europe and Asia. “Our goal is to develop new business opportunities at ITU Africa that will result in better communications services in markets throughout Africa and the Middle East. To this end, we hope to effectively communicate the technical advantages of our assets and to demonstrate our dedication and responsiveness to customers,” says Daniel S. Goldberg, chief executive officer at New Skies Satellites. “ITU Africa is one of the biggest shows on our calendar. These [Africa and the Middle East] are the fastest-growing regions in the fixed satellite services sector, and the show presents an opportunity to get together with current and potential customers from throughout the region to discuss face-to-face our new initiatives... There really is no better venue for gathering market intelligence and staying ahead of commercial developments,” he adds.
