Hardware vendor and distributor Kobian named Dubai based reseller Smart Touch Computers as “Business Partner Q1 2004” during a ceremony to honour its UAE channel partners. Pioneer Computers and JBS Trading also picked up awards for best motherboard and digital camera resellers respectively. Kobian also unveiled its first motherboard for the Intel Prescott processer. Smart Touch Computers, which markets Kobian’s range of products branded under the brand name Mercury, was applauded for its performance during the beginning of 2004, accounting for 20% of Kobian’s market share in the UAE. Kobian has seen its sales grow by 78% over the last year, with its 12 UAE partners taking a two-thirds share of that rise. To build on this, Kobian recently introduced a channel partnership programme for the UAE, “Partnering for Prosperity”, to strengthen its presence in the consumer market by working more closely with resellers. This event provided the launch for the new Mercury motherboard, the first Mercury board to be compatible with Intel’s Prescott processor. Kobian will be introducing this product to the Middle East market shortly. At this time of price-sensitivity in the motherboard market, Kobian believes that its Prescott compatible motherboard and other products in its range, including digital cameras and MP3 players, will provide a competitive edge, on the condition that resellers market these products at the right customer base.
