Canon Middle East has reported double-digit sales growth in Qatar, thanks partly to a claimed increase in demand for its photo video products. Canon claims its increased sales in Qatar over the first quarter of 2004 have been driven by greater demand for new-generation digital and intelligent office systems. The firm says sales of photo video products such as its MV digital camcorders and Powershot digital cameras have grown 40% in Q1 2004, compared to the same period last year. This growth announcement follows Canon’s report that its Qatar digital camera sales alone grew 75% in 2003, while its Bubble Jet and laser printer sales grew by 25% compared to 2002, with growth for this year projected at 35%. Canon’s latest Qatar sales figures were revealed earlier this week when the firm's directors unveiled its business strategy for the Qatari market. "Our business in Qatar is growing from strength to strength since the re-structuring of our distributors and national sales organisations in 2003," said Ammar Alul, director of Canon Middle East. "Canon has invested heavily in retail marketing strategies, channel partner activities, seminars and road shows to provide support to our network of business partners and national sales organisations." Canon is hoping to spur yet more growth this week by exhibiting through its distributors Salam Studio and Salam Technical at Qatar’s HiTec technology exhibition and conference, which is taking place at Doha World Trade Centre until Wednesday, April 21. The company is also currently promoting its printing and document management solutions, through key Saudi partners El Ajou and Al Quraishi, at Gitex Saudi Arabia. Last year Canon declared the Middle East as the fastest growing region for its worldwide sales, following the announcement of its 2003 financial results.
