Dubai’s International Media Production Zone (IMPZ) has been allotted an additional eight million sq ft area at its new location in Emirates road. The new allotment will increase the total area of the zone to 43 million sq ft. The announcement follows heavy interest from investors for plots on the zone, since the project's launch in July last year. While the infrastructure is intended to support all sectors of the media and entertainment industry such as film, music and broadcast, the first production cluster will focus on the printing industry. Al Ghurair Group has already booked an area of 500,000 sq ft and will invest Dh300 million on a print production facility in the zone. “The IMPZ initiative has generated a lot of interest and enthusiasm in the print industry in the UAE and around the region and in response to this we decided to expand the size of the project,” commented Mohammed Bin Ghalib, director of Special Projects. “The facility is part of the vision of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister to build Dubai into a global media hub. It complements Dubai Media City’s and the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone’s value proposition to provide an environment and infrastructure for knowledge industries to flourish,” he added. As with companies in Dubai Media City, companies in IMPZ will be offered 100 per cent ownership. They will be exempted from a range of taxes including those for machinery, equipment, raw materials and spares utilized by the industry. Furthermore, rules governing media production have been simplified to cut the red tape for companies in the zone.
