Piling work is well underway on many of the proposed towers at Jumeirah Beach Residence project, which is coming up along the last stretch of Jumeirah Beach this side of Jebel Ali. Unimix is supplying readymix concrete for a variety of piles ranging in diameter from 800mm to 1000mm and lengths vary from 18-36 metres deep. The Jumeirah Beach Residence project forms possibly the largest ‘package’ in the area marked by hectic construction activity. The development features 36 residential and four hotel towers, providing some 6500 housing units, luxury apartments, penthouses and beach clubs. It offers 2,2 million m² of gross floor area along a 1.7 km beach frontage for project developer, Estithmaar Realty. Unimix has started production with the first fully containerised mobile concrete batching plant in Dubai for its contract on the Jumeirah Beach Residence project. The plant has been acquired from German specialist manufacturer Lintec GmbH. Despite an existing batching plant close to Jumeirah, restrictive use on the main highways for trucks, together with Dubai’s heavy traffic congestion, meant transportation of readymix concrete was a key factor in Unimix purchasing the Lintec mobile system for the continuous supply of readymix. According to Unimix managing director, Khalid Mohammed S. Bakit, it was vital that the plant could be installed as close as possible to the project, thereby avoiding the use of the nearby Sheikh Zayed Highway. “Other factors in choosing the Lintec system were the speed of erection and dismantling, the ease of installation and being able to produce quality end products”. Operating 24 hours ‘round-the-clock’, the Unimix plant is producing 200 t/h in a variety of products for the foundations award. The plant is served by a fleet of up to thirty 9–12 m3 capacity mixer trucks for delivery to the adjacent site. The installation is also located alongside the Sheraton Hotel Beach Resort, a busy centre for tourists and therefore needed to conform to strict environmental controls; with the containerised plant meeting noise, dust and heat emissions norms. Although only recently introduced by Lintec, the containerised concept is rapidly gaining popularity with asphalt and concrete producers worldwide who need to frequently move their equipment from one project to another. The Jumeirah Beach Residence installation features a twin tower configuration with each tower comprising a mixer unit and weighing unit, this time installed within 8m ISO containers. Once the project is completed, the complete installation can be easily dismantled and moved to the next location in just two days.
