The InterContinental Hotels Group will manage the 500-room conference hotel at the upcoming Festival City development on the Dubai creek. The US $200 million high-rise hotel, due to open January 2007, will also feature 100 executive apartments and 3000 metres of conference and banquet facilities. The InterContinental Dubai Festival City Hotel will be an anchor tenant of the ‘Crescent’, the 2.5million square feet retail and entertainment centre built on the development. “This is the first of the three hotels to be developed in Phase One of Dubai Festival City,” said Omar Al Futtaim, chief executive of the Al Futtaim Group, the developers of the Festival City. “In its first phase, the development will have more than 1000 hotel rooms and an additional 1000 will be developed as part of its remaining phases.” One of the other hotels planned for the first phase is a 170-room boutique hotel to be built within the project’s Al Badia golf resort. “It is our intention to intensively market this property throughout our network and firmly place Dubai Festival City on the global tourism and conventions map,” said Richard Hartman, managing director of InterContinental Hotels Group for Europe, Middle East and Africa. “This property, as with the project, will allow guests access to a range of sporting, retail and entertainment facilities just two kilometres from Dubai International Airport.”
