Key moments of the richest horse race in the world, the Dubai World Cup were covered for the first time with a High definition camera system by the Dubai Sports Channel. Dubai TV rented four HDCAMs from Sony Business Middle East to cover the event. “We are constantly striving for excellence in image quality and programme delivery,” commented explained Ahmed Al Sheikh, head of Dubai Sports Channel. “As a leading broadcaster in the region, we couldn’t think of a better venue to demonstrate HDCAM High Definition Television to a world audience than the Dubai World Cup 2004, which is one of Dubai’s most prestigious events on the sporting calendar.” The HDCAM takes in seven times more information than a standard definition broadcast camera. The improvement to the image quality is immediate and clear to the user and viewer, even if, for transmission purposes, the pictures are “down-converted” to standard definition. “Those following the Dubai World Cup coverage this year will have encountered a new level of viewing experience,” commented David Castle, A/V Production, marketing manager, Sony Business Middle East and Africa. “We are delighted to have worked closely with the Dubai Sports Channel team to film the Dubai World Cup and capture the excitement of the thoroughbred finish with Sony technology.”
