Qatar and MEA to codeshare

In a rare example of co-operation in the Middle East avaition sector, Qatar Airways and MEA are to codeshare on Doha-Beirut-Doha services.

Qatar Airways and Middle East Airlines (MEA) have agreed to codeshare on flights between Doha and Beirut from March 28th. The deal, which will see MEA passengers flying on Qatar Airways’ aircraft, is a rate example of co-operation between Middle East carriers. “This codeshare marks an historic milestone for Qatar Airways and Middle East Airlines, as well as Middle East aviation generally,” says Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways. “MEA is the first Middle-East based airline that we have signed a codeshare agreement [with]," he adds. Under the terms of the codeshare agreements, members of the two airlines’ frequent flyer programmes will also be able to accumulate and spend points on both carriers’ flights. “Frequent flyer members of Qatar Airways’ Privilege Club and MEA’s Cedar Miles to earn and burn their miles on the entire network of both airlines,” says Al-Baker.
