IT services specialist Arabic Computer Systems (ACS) is developing a programme to provide services and support infrastructures for international vendors working in the Kingdom. “ACS would provide a helpdesk for desktop applications as well as using its coverage across Saudi Arabia to provide basic hardware maintenance services,” says Ibrahim Al-Zeer, group general manager at ACS. “The programme is still under development but we are already in discussions with several vendors.” ACS has developed into a heavyweight IT services provider for the Saudi Arabian enterprise account space. The company now makes more than 40% of its sales from IT services and has long-term ambitions to increase this revenue stream to approximately 60%. “Our strategy is to expand in a fast but controlled manner into IT services and business consulting,” says Al-Zeer. “Services is a very generic word and ACS’ plan is to target specific niches such as call centre solutions and excel in them.” Six months ago, ACS restructured into four business units to target specific market sectors and energise its services growth. “ACS now has a business unit dedicated to Microsoft solutions, a professional services arm focused on outsourcing and consulting, a managed services unit and a reseller arm working with major vendors such as HP, Dell and Sun,” adds Al-Zeer With 500 staff and annual sales in excess of US$187m, ACS has focused on delivering IT solutions to the Saudi corporate sector for 20 years. The company, which has enjoyed great success in the government and financial services sectors, is appearing alongside its major vendor partners at this week’s Gitex Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, Al-Zeer believes the event’s value is as strong as ever. “It is a vital event because it brings together vendors, suppliers and customers in one place. A great deal of information is shared and it is a great opportunity for customers to bring their various suppliers together,” he says.
