Nokia has completed an upgrade and expansion of Saudi Telecom Company’s (STC) GSM network. The move, allowing STC to cope with demand during the recent Hajj Pilgrimage, expanded the operator's network the areas of Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat and provided increased capacity for more than two million pilgrims. Nokia supplied a range of GSM network equipment, including its Ultrasite base stations and base station controller, BSC3i. The stations can support GSM/EDGE, High Speed Data, GPRS, and WCDMA. In addition, Nokia says it provided rollout planning and network optimisation to ensure network quality and reliable services during peaks in traffic.
