Mike Mogadam, Future Digital Company’s new general manager, has unveiled plans to develop the distributor’s business lines and build new sales streams. Top of the list is the launch of its own PC brand, Future Digital, which will be supported by a comprehensive set of installation and post-sales services. Until January 2004, FDC had been better known as SCE Computers — the name of its sister company. The 200 strong distributor serves 650 resellers across the region and represents major vendors including Intel, NEC, Western Digital and Maxtor. FDC will target its new PC line towards consumers in PC gaming as well as major verticals including banking and finance, oil and gas, airlines as well as major corporate accounts. FDC’s enhanced service offering will include software integration, networking, server management, data storage and IT security. The company has also unveiled a ‘Preferred Reseller Channel’ programme in the Middle East. This will develop deeper links with FDC’s strongest resellers by offering competitive pricing, marketing support, improved warranty service and other benefits to resellers reaching pre-determined sales targets. With sales in excess of US$100m a year, FDC certainly has scale. Its diversification plans open up new avenues for sales development but will need to be managed carefully. By launching its own PC brand, FDC will have to be careful not to start competing with some of its customer base also working in that field.
