Samsung’s UAE distribution deal with Tech Data marks another step in its regional channel expansion. The digital technology giant hopes to capture 75% of the UAE’s TFT-LCD monitor market in 2004. Independent research puts estimates that 55,000 TFT-LCD monitors will be sold in the UAE this year — a 60% increase on 2003. “Tech Data is one of the foremost distributors of high-end information technology products in UAE, as well as in the region,” said Taeho Roh, general manager at Samsung Gulf Electronics. “With this alliance we will be able to take advantage of Tech Data’s sophisticated distribution network and further consolidate and strengthen the company’s share of the UAE monitor market.” Eliot Shepherd, marketing director at Tech Data, adds: “The addition of Samsung’s technology products to our offering will complement our portfolio and enrich the strong customer relations we share in UAE.” The new distribution deal opens up Tech Data’s 3,000 resellers to Samsung products. Samsung has also earmarked substantial funds for channel promotions. “The agreement with Tech Data, recognized as a frontrunner in sales, logistics, general distribution and support of technology products, accelerates Samsung’s efforts in marketing to enterprise customers through VARs and dealers,” said Mr. K. S. Vaudevan, Senior Manager, Digital Information Technology division, Samsung Gulf Electronics.
