Emirates Airline is to use Telair International’s UltraLite AKE/LD3 containers to carry cargo on its long-haul flights. The airline ordered the ULDs after an extensive in-service trial as they fitted its requirements for lower tare weight and unit durability. The units will go into service from June. “We are extremely pleased that Emirates — a clear industry leader — has chosen the UltraLite container,” says Telair’s president, Axel Hauner. “We are confident the UltraLite will allow Emirates to achieve fuel cost savings, and that the units’ durable and easily repaired composite material will permit significant and sustainable reductions in their annual ULD maintenance costs.” UltraLite LD3 containers weigh just 62 kg, but they are rated for the same loads as the aluminum units they will replace. The units can also be easily repaired on the runway if needed with Telair’s ‘Peel-and-Seal’ technology, which saves time and costs.
