Mercator, the IT arm of the Emirates Group, is to implement Oracle Financials and Oracle Procurement for bmi. The deal means that the UK’s three largest carriers, BA, bmi and Virgin, are all now Mercator customers. The Oracle implementation forms a key part of bmi’s expansion plans. Oracle Financials will greatly enhance the carrier’s financial and accounting operations, while Oracle Procurement will streamline and automate the entire procurement process. “This implementation of Oracle solutions is absolutely core to the success of our future strategy, as it supports our ongoing process review and cost reduction strategy while supporting the growth of new businesses, such as [low cost carrier] bmibaby,” says Nigel Turner, bmi’s CFO. “It’s vital that we roll this out on time and on budget. This is why we picked Mercator — their airline experience and a number of successful Oracle implementations were key factors in our decision,” he adds. Among Mercator’s previous customers for Oracle implementations is Virgin Atlantic. While, BA uses Mercator’s revenue accounting system, Rapid.
