The Finnish network security vendor Stonesoft Corporation has announced the opening of its regional headquarters in Dubai for it’s Middle East operations. Stonesoft provides network security services and software such as firewalls, virtual private network (VPN), intrusion detection systems (IDS), server load balancing products and its own built-in operating system for more than 90% of Fortune 500 companies. Global customers include Samsung, Shell Oil, Lufthansa, Allianz, NASA, and Merrill Lynch and two out of three major commerical banks. The 13-year old company, which has its international headquarters in Helsinki, Finland; would operate locally from Dubai Internet City (DIC) through channel partners. “Companies in the Middle East are facing a unique challenge in that they are increasingly vulnerable to cyber-crimes and viruses, while at the same time, many industry sectors are facing increased competition and enhanced business opportunities, so require solutions that can be implemented without causing disruption,” says Jari Valvisto, director, Stonesoft, Middle East, North Africa, Eastern Europe. Research conducted by Stonesoft in the Middle East’s private and public sectors has revealed a dichotomy. Although a majority of regional organisations have budgeted to increase their security infrastructures within the next 12 months, a number of the organisations that spoke to Stonesoft voiced concerns about the difficulty in integrating and managing their current environment. “Our Middle Eastern presence will enable us to provide more in-depth support for existing global customers across the region and also to enable local clients to benefit from the same level of protection as some of the world’s leading brands,” says Theodore Kouyoumdjian, managing director, Stonesoft, Middle East.
