New hotels open in Kuwait

Two new economy hotels, a Four Points hotel by Sheraton and a Courtyard by Marriott, have opened in Kuwait, the Middle East’s best performing hotel market in 2003.

Two new economy hotels, a Four Points hotel by Sheraton and a Courtyard by Marriott, have opened in Kuwait, the Middle East’s best performing hotel market in 2003. Revenue per available room (revPAR) in Kuwait registered an 81.9% growth during 2003; revPAR grew from US$97 in 2002 to US$176 in 2003. Occupancy levels grew by 62% last year. Four Points is a mid priced hotel brand developed by the Starwood Hotels & Resorts. The 160-room Four Points hotel is situated next to the Sheraton Kuwait Hotel and Towers and both the hotels are owned by The Oriental Hotels Company, Kuwait. Marriott International, meanwhile, chose to open its first Courtyard branded hotel in the Middle East in Kuwait. The Kuwait Courtyard is a 298-room property and is part of a 75,000 square metre, multi-use project at the eastern entrance of Kuwait City. The project includes the Arraya Shopping Centre, the Arraya Convention Centre and the Arraya Office Tower among others. Services and amenities offered by Courtyard vary from country to country, but the hotel claims it is appropriate to the needs of guests in the host country. There are more than 600 Courtyard hotels in 15 countries around the world offering ; a new 169-room Courtyard hotel will open in Dubai at the end of this year. “The Arraya Convention Hall by Marriott is the largest meeting space in the centre of Kuwait City with the capacity to host 1500 people,” said Courtyard Kuwait general manager Thomas Beuhner.
