Mitel targets Iraq, Pakistan

Communications solutions provider, Mitel Networks, is preparing to expand geographically this year with the launch of operations in Pakistan and Iraq.

Communications solutions provider, Mitel Networks, is preparing to expand geographically this year with the launch of operations in Pakistan and Iraq. The vendor has teamed up with two partners to bring a range of telephony solutions to Iraq and is expanding the geographical remit of its Middle Eastern operations to include Pakistan. The latter move will allow Mitel to tap into potential growth in the country’s call centre market, which could be fuelled by deregulation and low labour costs. “The [market] dynamics in Pakistan are the same in Iraq,” says Hisham Amili, international sales director for MEA at Mitel. “The Americans are spending a lot of money there for security reasons. Pakistan, to compete with India, [is also] trying to [create] call centre business. This is a new area and… we are aiming to put Pakistan in our radar,” he adds. In Iraq, Mitel has signed MoUs with a local and regional partner to target demand for both TDM and IP telephony products. But it may also create a direct presence in the country at a later stage. “We already have two [partners] to start the operation with them in Iraq,” says Amili. “There is a need for various products in Iraq and we have those within our portfolio. Mitel still has TDM products. You also have the oil vertical [and] the newer environment, where they are deploying the latest [technology]. You also have the hybrid environment where they can’t jump to VoIP and we could deploy VoIP on existing [TDM solutions],” he adds.
