Students of the E-Commerce programme at Dubai Men’s College recently visited the regional headquarters of global logistics provider GAC to see how information technology was helping the company improve its services. The students visited GAC’s logistics centre in Jebel Ali, where they were taught about the warehouse management systems, including web-enabled tracking for stock balances and other statistics. The field trip was one of a series of visits to corporate organisations, where the students are currently seeing how the advantages of technology are being put to use in a working environment. “As a leader in the logistics industry, GAC is an excellent case study of a Dubai-based organisation achieving remarkable success in the application of information technology,” explains Tony Degazon, chair, of the E-Commerce programme at Dubai Men’s College. Students of the E-Commerce Programme are studying to reach a level of vocational skills that will ease them into the business environment once they graduate, which they will be able to apply to the entrepreneurial, highly evolving e-commerce field.
