IFFCO turns to Tech Access

Tech Access, the data centre channels provider of Sun Microsystems in the region today announced that the International Foodstuffs Company (IFFCO), an UAE-based group has successfully completed one year using the vendor’s centre as an IT pre-production testing facility.

Tech Access, the data centre channels provider of Sun Microsystems in the region today announced that the International Foodstuffs Company (IFFCO), an UAE based group is successfully using the vendor’s centre as an IT pre-production testing facility since 12 months. IFFCO – which has manufacturing facilities spread across the UAE, Egypt and Malaysia is already an existing customer of Sun using the vendor’s servers and software. It now uses the Tech Access iForce Centre for testing new solution modules, developing proof-of-concept studies for the company’s business objectives, training the internal IT team and refining its applications. Launched in July 2002, the US$1 million facility has the capacity to emulate IT solutions from vendors such as Oracle, Symantec, Sun and Veritas. “We are using the iForce Centre as a proof-of-concept testing for our applications before we put them into a production environment. This model helps IFFCO ensure that we’re actually installing solutions that meet our business requirements, and saves considerable time in deployment,” says Venkatesh Mahadevan, general manager, IT (group), IFFCO. One area in which IFFCO claims to have derived considerable value from the iForce center is in upgrading its Baan-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) environment. IFFCO currently uses the Tech Access and Sun facility as a pre-production testing facility before it rolls out new software modules to reduce the costs and strain involved in testing on IFFCO’s existing infrastructure. “However, in addition to the ‘test before you invest’ opportunities, IFFCO is also leveraging the iForce center for tweaking new technology scenarios and training our staff – all of which ensures that we’re not wasting valuable resources on technology that doesn’t fit IFFCO’s needs,” adds Mahadevan. International Foodstuffs Company (IFFCO) Group is the company behind food brands such as as Tiffany, Noor, London Dairy, Al Baker, Quanta and the Khaleej. “We are thrilled that our resources are being fully utilised by a locally based company such as IFFCO. Organisations in the region can use our iForce Centre to evaluate the potential return on investment of their planned technology projects,” says Martyn Molnar, business solutions architect, Tech Access.
