Wireless middleware provider, First Hop, is preparing to open an office in the Middle East after landing a deal to provide MTC-Vodafone with a platform to manage its third party mobile content in Bahrain. The office, to be situated in Dubai, will allow the Finnish provider to service its current customer base in the region and access perceived growing demand for content aggregation solutions from local mobile operators. “We have decided to open an office in the area… in the second quarter of this year,” says Thomas Dahlblom, vice president, sales and marketing, First Hop. “We want to be able to serve our existing customers better… and there’s growing demand for our products in the region,” he adds. The move follows MTC-Vodafone’s selection of First Hop’s Wireless Broker to manage content providers partnering with its operation in Bahrain, which was launched in at the end of December 2003. The middleware solution, enabling operators to control the provision, delivery and charging of wireless content developed for channels such as SMS, MMS, WAP Push, WAP and HTTP, consists of an SMS/MMS message gateway, routing and direct delivery middleware, WAP/HTTP content delivery and download.
