Visitors to this weekend’s Dubai International Jazz Festival will be able to go online while they are there by using Intel’s Centrino mobile technology. The vendor has combined efforts with IBM,VTME, and Mobilites and the festival organisers to set up a special “unwired” hospitality tent where 10 IBM ThinkPad T series notebooks based on the Intel Centrino Mobile Technology have been made available free of charge to give visitors the opportunity to go online in order to download sample music from their favourite performers at the show or to share this special moment with friends and family around the world by sending them the special “Mobilities Jazz” e-cards that have been designed for the occasion. Intel said in the press release detailing the initiative that it “stemmed from the spirit of the festival where visitors can freely roam in the lake area of Dubai Media City, to sample the latest music played by artists from around the world.” The wireless network has been setup by Mobilities and VTME utilizing the Intel Certified Hotspot solution SingleDigits. The Hotspot covers a radius of 200 meters of open space. Festival visitors will be able to chat, e-mail, browse the internet and access the Mobilities web site for more information on the technology used at the festival, as well as information on the event itself. “The Dubai International Jazz festival is the ideal location for music lovers to relax while they listen to great music, played by some of the world’s leading musicians,” said Ned Jaroudi, Intel’s Regional Enterprise Manager for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa, “We believe that this wireless network will make the experience even more enjoyable; it is an example of the brand new possibilities that mobile computing brings to people in all aspects of their life”
