Gulf Air Maintenance Company (GAMCO) is to take over the running of the Sharjah Airport's maintenance organisation under a five year deal signed with the Sharjah DCA. The agreement will enable GAMCO to carry out all aspects of line maintenance service, as well as operational, commerical and administrative matters. The MRO will handle maintenance for all carriers currently serving Sharjah, and any future airlines, aside from those doing maintenance inhouse. “Having GAMCO is indeed a major step towards upgrading our facilities and services to meet international requirements,” says Dr. Ghanem Al Hajri, director general of Sharjah Airport Authority. “GAMCO, which is certified by many countries, is well known for providing maintenance services and is a major value addition to the airport.” The GAMCO Sharjah Line Maintenance Organisation will operate as a separate business unit of GAMCO, and it will allow the company to tap into Sharjah’s booming aviation market. The airport has attracted a number of new carriers in recent months, including Shrajah’s new flag carrier, Air Arabia.
