PalmOne gears up for DSF

PalmOne the vendor of the Zire handheld has slashed prices for its new Zire 71 and Zire 21 which boast of more memory and software with faster processors. The Zire 71 is priced at 975 Dirhams, while the Zire 21 is priced at 399 Dirhams for the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) promotion.

PalmOne the vendor of the Zire handheld has slashed prices for its Zire 71 and the new Zire 21 which boast of more memory and software with faster processors. The Zire 71 is priced 975 Dirhams, while the Zire 21 is priced at 400 Dirhams for Dubai Shopping Festival. Adding value to the top-selling original Zire handheld Palm One today introduced the Zire 21 handheld, with more software, a faster processor and four times greater memory. The Zire 21 handheld - with a recommended retail price of 399 Dirhams is targeted at first-time handheld-buyers to juggle daily tasks surrounding work, family and social activities. The company has also announced a reduction in price for the Zire 71 handheld effective as of tomorrow, from the recommended retail price of 1150 Dirhams to 975 Dirhams. The Zire 21 boasts of four times the storage capacity of the original Zire handheld with 8MB of memory (7.2MB user available); faster access to information with new 126MHz Texas Instruments OMAP processor; updated versions of Date Book, Address Book, Note Pad and To Do List with the latest Palm OS software, Version 5.2.1; and new software essentials now included on the installation CD. “The Zire 21 handheld is Palm One’s sequel to the fastest-selling handheld in history. At a great price and the ease of use, the sequel offers more memory for data and applications, as well as faster performance. We expect the Zire 21 handheld to be another hit with first-time users and gift-givers,” says Stuart Maughan, general manager, palmOne Middle East branch. "" Included with the Zire 21 are rechargeable handheld (battery lasts about 2 weeks with normal use), desktop software for the PC or Mac, and cables. The vendor adds that with more storage, the Zire can store years of appointments and thousands of contacts, with additional space for choosing from more than 20,000 applications, ranging from business software to exercise logs and shopping-list managers. The advanced Zire 71 has MP3 capability, built-in camera, QuickTime applications for video and is targeted at multimedia enthusiasts. The Zire 21 handheld and Zire 71 handheld are currently available from consumer-electronics outlets, major retail chains across the Middle East. Palm One is the name adopted in October 2003 by Palm, Inc., when it spun off PalmSource, maker of the Palm OS platform software and acquired Handspring merging the Zire, Tungsten and Treo subbrands. The original Zire handheld has been the fastest-selling handheld in the company's history, with more than 1 million units sold in its first seven months of sales.
